MSc Person-Centred Practice (Nursing Education)

The MSc Person-Centred Practice is a postgraduate programme which focuses on personcentredness in the contemporary practice of integrated health and social care. The Person-Centred Practice (PCP) Framework offers practitioners to develop their studies and to enhance their expertise of person-centred practice through a programme designed to meet their needs and those of the community.

This programme develops nursing professionals for the multi-professional and multi-faceted health and social care environment. The programme offers students a chance to personalise their learning to meet their situation. They can choose to specialise in one of the three disciplines: MSc PCP (Nursing Education); MSc PCP (Nursing Management) and MSc PCP (Community Care).

The MSc PCP (Nursing Education) programme develops in practitioners a deep and critical understanding of different sources of knowledge and of research evidences that contribute to the health and well-being of persons, group and populations. This programme is suitable to the practitioners who aspire to contribute in educating future nursing professionals.

Programme Objective

• To develop practitioners with a comprehensive and practical perspective of personcentred ways of working.
• To develop practitioners with an understanding of person-centred practice from a variety of practice, strategic and policy angles.
• To enable practitioners to meet the challenges of promoting person-centredness in advanced clinical, educational, managerial and research-based roles.

Delivery Method

The curriculum is taught over 4 terms of 12 weeks each. Modules are conducted in formal instructor-led classrooms sessions. Each term will cover 3 modules with 3 contact hours per module; Lecture is a 3-hour session per week.

Comprises of examination, presentations and assignments.
Modules
  • 1. Theory and Practice of Person-centred Health and Social Care
    • To develop expertise in understanding the needs of a person, their family and their community throughout the lifespan, working collaboratively in ways that are consistent with the values of person-centredness. To facilitate critical understandings of different sources of knowledge contributing to health and well-being and to evidence generation and implementation, consistent with the values of person-centredness.
  • 2. Leading Professional Practice
    • To develop expertise in leading and transforming professional practice through a critical understanding of the theoretical underpinnings and the research evidence for the facilitation of leadership. To develop an awareness of the individual contribution to and potential for leaders
  • 3. Making Judgments and Decisions in Practice
    • To enable students to engage in, examine and improve judgement and decision making processes practice from an informed, evidence based position.
  • 4. Developing Professional Practice
    • The overall aim of this module is to enable the student to plan, implement and critically evaluate professional practice in order to advance practice in the workplace.
  • 5. Education in Action A
    • To Critically engage participants in the application of theoretical and practical aspects of facilitating learning in the context of their own work. To Foster dynamic approaches to teaching and learning through creativity, innovation and continuous development in diverse academic and/or professional settings (HEA 2011)
  • 6. Education in Action B
    • To Critically engage participants in the application of theoretical and practical aspects of using assessment/evaluation to enhance learning, in the context of their own work. Foster dynamic approaches to teaching and learning through creativity, innovation and continuous development in diverse academic and/or professional settings (HEA 2012)
  • 7. Dissertation Project
    • To enable students to develop critical inquiry skills and understanding of different approaches to research which contribute to advancing person-centred practice and knowledge generation. To engage students in systematic study of an aspect of professional practice with which the student engages with academic rigour, self-directed learning and reflexivity, leading to transformation of self, others and the practice context.
