University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) opens it Asia Campus in Singapore with focus on Business programs

We are proud to announce agreement towards the establishment of the University of Wales, Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) Asia Campus in Singapore, in partnership with East Asia Institute of Management (EASB.

Professor Antony J Chapman, Vice Chancellor of the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff will be in town to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with Mr Andrew Chua, Chairman and CEO of East Asia Institute of Management. (EASB) The MOU signing ceremony will take place at the Balestier campus of East Asia Institute of Management, 9 Ah Hood Road, on Tuesday, 19th August, 2008, 9.45 am.

UWIC, Cardiff’s Metropolitan University, has an excellent reputation in UK Academia, being the top ranked ‘new university’ in Wales in the 2007 UK Sunday Times League Table. It is particularly well-regarded for its career-orientated degree courses, with 95% of its graduates gaining employment or undertaking further study within six months of completing their studies. It has a strong and growing high-profile research tradition, through the developments carried out in its various research and enterprise centres, including the Food Industry Centre, the Welsh Centre for Tourism Research, and ther National Centre for Product design and Development Research.

UWIC has also been in the headlines for its unique achievement in UK Higher Education, having been granted the UK Government’s Charter Mark for Excellence in Public Service five times - 1995, 1998, 2001, 2005 and again in 2008.

UWIC Asia campus will be located at 98, Henderson Road, S(159543) and will officially commence its operations towards the end of 2008 or early 2009. It will inherit a register of over 300 students, currently enrolled into a range of business and accountancy undergraduate and postgraduate courses conducted under existing collaboration between UWIC and East Asia Institute of Management. The fully equipped UWIC Asia campus premises will be renovated and further upgraded to accommodate up to 3,000 students. Besides, Singapore, UWIC students who will come from the Asia Pacific region, mainly from China, India, and Vietnam.

The UWIC Asia campus will build its core portfolio of programmes around Business and Management-related disciplines. In particular, it will offer specialist undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Business Information Systems, Human Resource Management, and the MBA in International Business Management. Other specializations to be launched will cover Project Management and electives in Casino Management and Events Management.

We are confident that UWIC Asia Campus, in partnership with East Asia Institute of Management (EASB), will very quickly become a significant contributor to the Republic’s goal of being the Global Schoolhouse, achieving, in the process, the status of a top-ranking premier and high quality private tertiary level education provider in the global arena.
