The students of B-ETEDP 36 visited the four Singapore Living Galleries of the National Museum Of Singapore:
1. Photography Gallery
The students saw photographs of families in Singapore in the last 100 years and learnt about the different races and cultural practices here.
2. Food Gallery
The students learnt about the different types of local hawker food such as Roti Prata, Laksa and Satay. They also got to know the common spices used by Singaporeans in their home-cooked food.
3. Film Gallery
The students watched excerpts of old home-grown films and saw movie paraphernalia such as posters and tickets.
4. Fashion Gallery The students found out about the fashion of the past eras and traditional costumes worn by the different ethnic groups in Singapore.
Besides the four galleries, there was also a special exhibition known as “A Banquet In Stone.” It featured a “feast” of international cuisines, which was actually put together using rare stones, mostly from Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia. The students were especially fascinated by the “chocolate stone” which gave off a natural aroma of chocolate.
Overall, the students enjoyed themselves as they not only discovered something new about Singapore, there were also some similar food, costumes and cultural practices they could identify with.
