Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) - Strategic Focus
alt

The DBA develops high-level integrated understanding. The course philosophy recognizes the senior executives in modern organisations require deep knowledge and understanding across a range of disciplines. The DBA is designed to address this issue by developing knowledge and understanding of a range of high-level interdependent disciplines, reinforced with doctoral level research ability.

The Edinburgh Business School DBA programme will produce business research professionals who can use their integrated understanding and research skills at senior executive level to add value in a real business environment. The DBA concentrates on the achievement of doctoral level research skills, which can be used directly by senior executives in the business environment to detect, diagnose and correct a wide range of problems and to add value through innovation.

The DBA is an alternative route to the traditional PhD programme (which focuses on the development of professional researchers).

Who should apply?

  Postgraduate
Organisations operate under conditions of constant change. Existing risks evolve and new risks emerge. Evolving and new risks combine to generate obstacles to success that must, in today’s highly competitive world, be detected and overcome as early as possible. To do so, the individual requires a range of investigative and analytical skills – often in the past the preserve of the management consultant – and a thorough knowledge of the organisation itself. It is in this last area that the executive has the edge over the external consultant, a fact that is being increasingly recognised.
