Modules Synopsis

IS2013: Information Technology Project Management
The majority of information technology (IT) implementations are introduced into organizations through projects. This module covers the multi-disciplinary skills required to successful manage IT projects. With a specific focus on IT, the unit covers the administrative, technical, communication and socio-political demands placed on modern IT project managers.

IS2023: Data Structures and Algorithms
We study data structures and algorithms so that we can learn to write more efficient programs. The quest for creating efficient programs has little to do with "programming tricks" but rather is based on good organization of information and good algorithms

This module will enable students to create efficient data structures and algorithms and to understand the principles required to select or design the data structure that will best solve the problem. The integrated treatment of algorithm analysis, file processing, and efficiency will be focused in this module. C++ will be used as a tool to illustrate data structure concepts.

IS2033: Operating Systems
Operating systems is an exciting software area because the design of an operating systems (OS) exerts a major influence on the overall function and performance of the entire computer.

This module offers a practical and applied introduction to operating systems concepts, aimed at student interested in using computers, operating systems, and networks. Instead of focusing on the OS theory, students will be able comprehend a "systematic view" of the subject, where the module will provide insight into what is going on beneath the surface. The intent of this module is to show why operating systems are important to users and what, at a functional level, they do.

IS2043: Object-Oriented Software Development Using Java
Object-Oriented Software Development Using Java focuses on developing skills in designing software-particularly in writing well-designed object-oriented programs. It provides a broad and coherent coverage of object-oriented technology, including object-oriented modeling, object-oriented design and programming using Java. This module prepares students for the industry's move toward object-oriented languages by introducing design concepts early and then moving on to Java.

IS2053: Systems Analysis and Design
In today's information and technology-driven business world, students need to be aware of three key factors. First, it is more crucial than ever to know how to organize and access information strategically. Second, success often depends on the ability to work as part of a team. Third, the Internet will play an important part in their work lives.

This module will address these key factors and as such addresses the need for a comprehensive, experiential learning approach to systems analysis and design (SAD). As the student of SAD prepares to enter the complex world of devising cost-efficient, productivity-enhancing business systems, practical experience is essential. SAD consists of four steps highlighted in this module: Planning and Selections; Analysis; Design and Implementation and Operations.

IS2063: Business Information Systems
The subject describes how businesses operate and are managed, and shows how information systems support business operations and management. It discusses the importance of competitive advantage to businesses and explains how information systems can help provide that advantage. Furthermore it covers the technical foundations of information systems and shows how the technology is critical to the success of businesses.

IS2073: Software Development Project (Group)/Student Industrial Project
The ability to apply knowledge and skills to real-life situations is essential for information systems professionals. A substantial project, under academic supervision will develops your initiative and ability to apply your knowledge and skills in a professional capacity. Completing the project will also enable you to appreciate the complementary nature of the course material in total, particularly the need for careful management.
