| Course
Objective
This course provides students with an understanding of how
the proper management of employees contributes towards organisational
effectiveness. It will enable students to pursue a career
in human resource management or employee relations, a role
of increasingly significance within organisations. The area
of study covers the full scope of the human resource role
including planning, training, human performance, cross-cultural
management and strategic aspect of human resource management.
Entry Requirements
- EASB Diploma in Business Management
OR
- Diploma of related discipline OR
- Equivalent qualification from a
recognized higher learning institution
- Proficiency in English language
Duration
This is a 12-months program, comprising
4 terms. Each term is of 12 weeks duration, including 11
weeks of formal class time and independent study. Formal
class time will consist of 3 hours of lectures and 3 hours
of tutorials per week. Examinations will be held on week
12.
Students will take 2 modules per term.

Assessment & Awards
Assessment for each module comprises
coursework (30%) and a written examination (70%). The coursework
may include case study analysis, review of published journals
or conference articles, laboratory assignments, research
reports and tutorial participation.
Upon successful completion of all
8 modules, the student will be awarded the EASB
Advanced Diploma in Business Management (Human Resource
Management).
Modules Synopsis
BM
2020 Organisational Behavior
This module provides students with an introduction to basic
individual and group processes and how these processes affect
people within organisations. Topics covered include group
dynamics, appraisal, evaluation and employee evaluation
and motivation, stress management, communication, cultural
diversity, conflict, leadership, power and politics, and
change management.
BM 2040 HR and Cross-Cultural Management
This module provides students with a framework for understanding
and thinking strategically about employment relations and
the management of human resources in organisations. The
course draws on insights from the social sciences to explore
how economic, social, psychological, legal, and cultural
forces influence employment relations.
BM 2210 Human Resource Development
This module provides students with an understanding of the
human resource development framework. This include the learning
process, adult learner, learning and motivation theories,
learning styles inventory - Kolb’s learning cycle,
experiential learning, group dynamics and group learning,
management of change and workplace intervention.
BM 2220 Human Resource Planning
and Strategies
This module introduces students to the human resource planning
process with the strategic business framework. Topics covered
include the business plan, human resource plan, demand and
supply of labour, quality of labour, planning and forecasting
human resource requirements and future global trends that
will affect the workplace and challenge the workforce.
BM 2230 Organisational and Managing
Training Needs
This module provides the students with an understanding
and appreciation in developing a business-training plan.
Students will learn how to employ a systematic approach
to analyse, recognise, prioritise and develop training needs.
BM 2240 Human Resource Economics
This module presents an economic analysis of the functions
of the human resource manager. The recruitment process is
analysed in terms of the costs and benefits of different
hiring strategies, the setting of hiring standards, salary
structures, probationary periods and the role of credentials.
BM 2050 Management Information System
The focus of this module is on providing the business students
with a fundamental knowledge of management science applications
and management information systems development and implementation
in business. It covers the basic concepts of linear programming,
network analysis, decision theory, and simulation and their
applications to a range of business decisions. It looks
at the basic tools and techniques for analyzing, designing,
implementing, and reviewing information systems as well
as the management challenges of e-Business. Most of all,
it aims to produce students with an understanding of mathematical
and systems modeling techniques.
AC 2011 Financial Accounting
II
This module provides students with an understanding of the
supporting theories and assumptions underpinning financial
accounting and an analysis of contemporary financial accounting
issues. Topics covered include the conceptual framework
of accounting, alternative theories for explaining accounting
behaviour and accounting choice, the regulatory process,
recognition and measurement issues and controversies, and
emerging issues in accounting.
