Assessment
Each module is assessed by academic work comprising written assignments, case study reports, essays, examination as determined by the subject profile. The assessment criterion varies from module to module and level to level.
Modules
- 1. Business Statistics
-
This module is for learners who work in, or who want to work in, business and research environments. Learners will be aiming for a career in business and finance where they will be sourcing and analyzing business related data. Students will learn to apply statistical techniques to business data in order to plan and control business operations, evaluate and manage risk and support the decision-making process. This module will enhance students’ statistical knowledge and abilities which are employers’ requirements. This module covers management information, business planning models, risk management and business decision making, quality assurance and control.
- 2. Economics

In this module, students will learn the different economic systems and how the market works. Students will be exposed to the various micro-economic theories of demand and production, product pricing, market forms; price determination under perfect competition and imperfect competition, and the theory of distribution. In addition, students will learn the macro-economic theory of income and employment determination, National Income, Keynesian and monetarists' viewpoints, and the main macro-economic concerns of Inflation; Unemployment, as well as Macro-economic policies and International Trade.
- 3. Financial Accounting I

This module covers key knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and concepts including the preparation of accounting entries for non-current assets; advanced bookkeeping; journals for correction of errors and year-end adjustments; trial balance and financial accounts. In addition, the module aims to develop learners’ ability to manage a selection of computerised accounting systems to provide management information. Software such as AutoCount will be taught. Students will be exposed to AP AR GL CB COA TB POS modules. Key areas such as setting up initial data, entering transactions, making end of period adjustments, amending chart of accounts, producing and analysing end period reports will be covered. This qualification is suitable for those working or intending to work in advanced accounting roles.
- 4. Legal Issues in Transportation

Legal Issues in Transportation module encompasses a wide range of transportation topics which are highly relevant in our fast changing world. Students will be exposed to some basic laws, transportation terms and legal effect, and also legal considerations in both logistics, forwarding and transportation contracts.
Students will be equipped with a good understanding of the business environment relating to international trade and transportation. In particular, students will get to understand the different types of contractual relationships and their effect and consequences, the different legal scenarios applicable to carriage of goods, import and export, types of employment or engagement contracts, international conventions governing road, ocean and air transportation, risks and insurance problems arising out of increasingly complex logistics and transportation solutions, the role of multimodal transportation bills of lading, consignment notes and airway bills in logistics and transportation, the legal issues in all types of transport-related accidents, including personal injury and wrongful death, maritime liens and
subrogation rights, legal consequences of maritime collision, oil spill, product liability and
salvage, trade financing documents and their effects.
- 5. Principles of Information System

This module provides students a general overview of information systems concepts and its application to
practical business situation. Students will learn to differentiate between data and information and learn
the key attributes of information and the various types and levels of information. Students will also be
exposed to the major areas of IS knowledge including Information Technologies - hardware, software,
networks, data resource management, and Internet-based technologies; Business Applications; and
Systems Development Processes.
- 6. Principles of Management

This module introduces students to key challenges faced by managers in the new millennium. Learning includes the study of management concepts, management processes, and managerial roles in organization; classical, behavioural and contemporary viewpoints in management; organizational culture and social responsibility and ethics in management; planning and managerial decision making; organizing and organizational structure and design; leading, managing individuals and groups, motivation, leadership, employment relations and managerial control and control methods.
- 7. Purchasing and Procurement

Purchasing and Procurement module focuses on the strategic role of purchasing and procurement, and the latest developments in supply management. Students will understand the principles of purchasing and supply management, their application within various types of organisations. Students will follow purchasing cycle from its inception through bid solicitation, proposal receipt, evaluation, negotiation and contract. Using the six-step purchasing management process, students will learn how to develop and implement a successful purchasing strategy, select the best suppliers and employ effective negotiating techniques.
- 8. Warehousing and Inventory Management
-
This subject covers what students need to know from stock control, outsourcing, managing warehouse operation to customer service. Balancing core principles with current issues such as global supply chain, reverse logistics, risk management and socio-political influence that is essential for any warehousing, logistics or supply chain professional.
Warehousing & Inventory Management module introduces students to planning that maximises the effective use of space, equipment and labour. Students learn how to manage warehouses for maximum productivity, and makes planning as an evaluation and correction tool.

LCCI Diploma Level 4
or
Equivalent academic qualification from a recognized higher learning institution
AND
English Proficiency Requirement:
Minimum EASB ETEDP Level 2 / IELTS 5.5 / GCE O-Level C6
