Specialist Diploma in Game Design and Development

Specialist Diploma in Game Design and Development is a 9 month course focusing on crafting and developing solid conceptualizes idea from paper to a mobile proto-type. Students will be taught core fundamentals of art and design thinking. This course covers core component development in Game Design including storytelling, character development, game design development, game programming and other game concepts in various forms. In addition there will be a 2 month Industrial Attachment upon successful completion of the course.

This course will groom students to become a well-rounded entrepreneurial Game Designer, Level Designer, a 2D & 3D Game Artist or a Gameplay Programmer who can design and develop a game idea from conceptualisation to project proposal and from prototyping to production.

Programme Objective

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 

  • Apply game design principles and techniques by the end of the course. 
  • Use Storyboard software to manipulate storyboard based on their game design documentation.
  • Demonstrate the use of Game Design Documentation to develop game prototype 
  • Apply techniques of paper prototyping and it’s fundamentals
  • Manipulate using 2D / 3D Unity engine (Cocos-XD2) to develop prototype for mobile / cross platform 
  • Apply correct micro-transactions ingame 
  • Idea generation and apply ingame unique selling points such as game features and core game mechanics 
  • Demonstrate the 3 types of Gamification
Delivery Method

Generally the curriculums for all levels are taught over 4 terms of 12 weeks. Modules are conducted in formal instructor-led classroom sessions where students are introduced to the course discipline. Each term will cover 2-3 modules with 50 contact hours per module. Lectures are 2-hour sessions and Tutorial 3-hour sessions weekly
