16th June 2012 – The Placement and Training team has done it again, this time, in the land of opportunities, China. A sequel to the inaugural EASB Alumni Dinner Singapore Chapter which was held in Amara Hotel, Singapore early this year, and this time, Chinese alumni from all over the country gathered at the modern metropolis, Shanghai.
Held in Hua Ting Hotel, Shanghai, more than 70 graduates attended the dinner event. “Great thank you to the organising committee for their hard work. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to meet old friends and cohort-mates again especially in the comfort of our home-country” enthused Ms. Fennie Li Fan, event emcee and alumni of 2005 cohort.
Old friends greeted one another at the cocktail receptions while some others took the opportunities to socialise and widen their career networks.

Before the official start of the event, guests were treated with a series of short video clips covering the recent updates and changes of their alma mater. “Much has changed since I graduated in 2010, it’s fortunate that our juniors now are living the life we never did!” exclaimed by Zhou Ting, on the EASB Sports Day and Musical events last year.

“Every organisation deserves good leaders. As graduates and professionals, you have both the competence and the experience to make a difference. I would like to take this opportunity to challenge some of you to take up the mantle of alumni leadership and serve your fellow graduates through the alumni association” said Dr. Andrew Chua, Principal and Executive Chairman, who flew from Singapore to grace this momentous event.
One particular alumnus heard his calling. Mr Lee Yu Sheng, graduate from Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management of 2008 cohort, was nominated as the EASB Alumni Association President of Shanghai chapter. He accepted the appointment on first notice when contacted by ex-schoolmate and current EASB Placement and Training Coordinator, Ms Xu Jianing, Stephanie.
“EASB is well known for it’s strength in hospitality and to produce graduates who are ready to step into the industry. China in the recent years is also quickly developing herself in the area of tourism and welcomes graduate of EASB into this up-and-rising industry, especially in China” said Ms Xiao Yin from Shanghai Pudong Tourism Bureau.
“Testimonies of Excellence” was the theme of the event and the organising committee invited some alumni to go onstage. Many alumni took the opportunity to show their gratitude to the school while some took it a step further and did a sales pitch.

“I felt this is the perfect opportunity for me to give back to the Institute. EASB gave me the overseas educational experience that I’ve always wanted and during my 5 years stint in Singapore, EASB have also offered me a full-time position to kick-start my career” said Mr Lee, currently Owner of a music studio in Shanghai.
It is undeniable that both events were well received by the participants and have opened doors to greater opportunities for EASB graduates, in terms of their career and professional development.
