Edinburgh Inspiring Capital Clipper crew visit EASB Balestier Campus

2 Feb 2012 – The Edinburgh Inspiring Capital crew were welcomed by twin EASB Lions, named Success and The Light, at the EASB Balestier Campus this morning.

Queen Margaret University's Singapore partner, East Asia Institute of Management, EASB, recently opened a Hospitality & Tourism Training Centre (HTC) as an extension to the Balestier campus left wing. The HTC houses a mock up hotel complete with F&B fine dining restaurant and casino training facility.

 


 


Professor Petra Wend, Vice Chancellor and Principal of Queen Margaret University (QMU) flew down from Scotland to officiate the opening ceremony with the EASB pedigree lions.

 


Brunch was served at the HTC restaurant, ran by students of EASB. Richard Abraham, Lesley Roberts, Nick Barclay and skipper Gordon Reid were treated to a healthy and sumptuous "East meets West" brunch was specially prepared by Chef Alvin Goh, Assistant Head of School (QMU Asia) after their long voyage at sea.

The Clipper Round The World Yacht Race have just began and the Edinburgh crew have just completed a grueling 30 day sail from Australia ’s Gold Coast before stopping at Marina at Keppel Bay.

Edinburgh Inspiring Capital skipper Gordon Reid said: "It's great to be here in Singapore and to pay a visit to the East Asia Institute of Management. The crew have endured a gruelling sail from Australia, so it is good to see them refuelling and enjoying a taste of home at QMU's impressive new facilities."

Lesley Williams of Marketing Edinburgh, said, "Both Scotland and Singapore are renowned for their distinctive cuisine and cooking traditions, so it is fantastic to see the Edinburgh Inspiring Capital crew cooking up a storm in the QMU's new facilities here in Singapore."

Professor Petra Wend, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of QMU said, "We are very proud to be able to host the crew of the Edinburgh Inspiring Capital yacht here in recognition of their tremendous hard work and achievement in promoting Edinburgh to the world as a centre of business and education."

The Edinburgh Inspiring Capital crew will set sail for Qingdao, China, from Keppel Marina on Saturday 4 February.
