Warmest Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 2011
16 December 2011 - Convocation is a watershed event that marks a significant milestone in one’s life. This morning, EASB proudly presented its largest graduating cohort till date with 1411 graduates from postgraduate Masters Degree programme to Diploma level.
Professor Andrew Chua, Principal and Executive Chairman of EASB, giving an opening speech This year, the convocation ceremony was held in the auditorium of the Singapore Conference Hall. It was made even more significant in that the venue witnessed international events such as the first Commonwealth Heads of Delegations conference in 1971, to home celebrations and political events such as the State Banquet in Celebration of National Day and the 150th Anniversary of the Founding of Modern Singapore on 8th August 1969, and the election of Singapore’s first elected President in 1993. It is a joyous event joint by families and friends coming from across the globe to witness this memorable occasion as they mark the completion of their education journey.
Mr. Lim Biow Chuan, Member of Parliament of Mountbatten SMC, Chairman, GPC for Education, was present to grace this meaningful event. “In receiving your certificate this morning, you have undergone a programme that is industry relevant and employment centred. However, I hope you bear in mind that this is not the end of your learning journey, but the beginning” said Mr. Lim Biow Chuan on the importance of continuous learning and the beginning to a lifelong journey of knowledge acquisition.
Stage Party rises for the Singapore National Anthem Along with Professor Andrew Chua, Principal and Executive Chairman of EASB, stage party was joint by Queen Margaret University’s Professor Alan Gilloran, Vice Principal (Academic), along with Dr. Christian Bovis-Cnossen, Dean, School of Arts, Social Sciences & Management, and Cardiff Metropolitan University’s (formerly known as University of Wales Institute, Cardiff) Professor Antony J Chapman, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, with Ms. Jacqui Hare, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Learning & Teaching. Seated amongst the audiences was Ms. Sharah Tsui, Regional Director-Asia, representing Edinburgh Business School, Heriot Watt University,
Professor Alan Gilloran conferring the “You graduates have achieved enormous success today and you deserve to celebrate. I urge you however to never stop valuing, applying and extending your skills and knowledge in new and innovative ways” Professor Alan Gilloran emphasised. Dressed in the traditional Scottish kilt, Professor Alan Gilloran cited Scotland’s pledge - ‘Flower of Scotland’, referring our graduates as “Flowers of Queen Margaret University’s Asia campus” Ms Kelly Tran and Ms Valerie Neo, of QMU and UWIC took to the stage respectively for the delivery of their valediction. “As we all look forward to the next stages of our lives, I would like to quote the words of famous former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to never give up. “We may face some setbacks when we plant our feet in the working world but remember that we are allowed to make mistakes and to learn from them. Above all, as long as we do not give up, continue to preserve, to raise the bar, we can always achieve success” enthused Ms Valerie Neo during her closing statement before their final farewell as they disperse to pursue their individual paths after graduating.
